Color cosmetics has had to adjust to a new way of life with more emphasis being placed around hygienic practices. At ICS we have noticed this has led to an increased demand for packaging with built-in applicators, helping to keep the formulation, as well as your skin, contaminant-free, such as bottles, tubes and pencils with built-in brushes, doe foots or rollers. Packaging paired with separate applicators are also increasing in popularity, such as plastic or aluminum spatulas and spoons paired with glass jars, ideal for applying lip balms, color lip treatments and other dense formulations. An increased focus in wellness has caused color cosmetics to adopt a more skincare-like approach, adding active moisturizing ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid and Sodium Hyaluronate or other caring actives into lipsticks and lip glosses, or BHA’s and other acne fighting ingredients such as niacinamide into foundation and primers. “Maskne” has enhanced this demand for acne fighting, as well as skin soothing ingredients, such as probiotics and CBD oils to calm skin irritation.
At ICS requests for cosmeceutical style packaging options, such as tubes, jars, droppers and rollerball packs have been on the rise, especially glass packaging, which is an excellent option in terms of compatibility and sustainability. Consumers are becoming better informed and aware of their product choices causing a huge demand for clean beauty, focusing on natural, non-toxic, cruelty free and vegan claims, etc. Natural ingredients are becoming increasingly popular, especially upcycled plant and food-based ingredients, such as fruits, vegetables and mushrooms.
