As sustainable packaging continues to storm the beauty industry consumer preference for more natural and organic looking packaging also grows causing a shift in trend for color and decoration processes. Last year glossy colorful packaging was still at play with the continued popularity of millennial pink, but this year has seen a major redirection in packaging finishes to more matte and earthy textures. Nudes have been the color of choice, ranging from creamy, chocolatey hues to sandy, rosy tones and clear, transparent packaging has been the leading decoration look in both plastic and glass packaging. These transparent and natural organic shades and packaging textures make consumers feel their packaging is more sustainable and trustworthy, whilst also remaining playful, youthful and tactile.
Recently our most popular decoration processes, that have been increasingly in demand this past year, have been matte and soft touch finishes, clear, frosted and tinted finishes and reverse-out shade identification finishes. These varieties of decoration processes all provide the packaging with a soft, luxe, organic feel or provide a complexion matching or color matching effect, as transparency within the beauty industry remains a strong factor for beauty brands to appeal to the modern consumer.
ILIA Beauty offers natural, clean makeup and skincare and their packaging finishes are the perfect example of this trending neutral and organic decoration style. We recently developed the packaging for their True Skin Radiant Priming Serum Mini Bottle that has a soft matte cream colored finish and we also developed their Liquid Light Mini Pump that has an earthy mink colored pearlized pump and cap with a clear frosted bottle.
We work closely with all our clients to develop and meet their decoration and finish needs, no matter how challenging. Some plastic materials, such as PP, may have lower adhesion which makes spray and metalized finishes more difficult to bond, but not impossible. Paper packaging is a versatile option for decoration processes as it offers unlimited custom wrap options, from printed designs to specialty papers, foils and fabrics. Some more textured fabrics will not allow for direct printing, so to overcome this we would recommend embellishments, such as a logo plate. Paper packaging is not only great for decoration versatility, but it is also a sustainable and eco-friendly packaging option. At ICS we use FSC and Recycled Paper and can custom design each paper pack to suit your formulations and trends.
The sustainability trend continues to expand into all aspects of packaging meaning that decoration processes cannot be ignored.
