Position: Product Designer/Artworker
Report to: Director of Packaging Development
Job Description
· Based in Hong Kong
· The position will require the applicant to work closely with a product designer based in UK, Engineering and NPD (China, Hong Kong and Taiwan).
· Two main objectives of the role:
o Product Design: Concept development of cosmetic packaging.
o Graphic Design: Checking, modifying and designing graphic artworks for/from clients for use as decoration, illustration, or advertising on manufactured materials, packaging or containers.
· This is an exciting opportunity in a developing NPD team which is looking to add design flair to its engineering expertise. Further, the candidate will be expected to proactively add to the dynamics of the NPD team.
· The candidate will need to have excellent communication skills, including written and spoken English.
· Capable of supporting both in-house teams and customers in developing new packaging ideas.
· Self motivated and capable of working independently, able to manage their own time effectively and prioritise their workload relative to demands of customers and in-house teams.
· Participate in new product planning and market research, including studying the potential need for new products within industry.
· Advise clients on issues involving corporate image or problems with packaging and generating concepts and solutions
· Knowledge, skills and experience required:
o Strong 3D concept development portfolio.
o Accomplished 2D skills including Photoshop and Illustrator.
o Familiar with Solidworks or similar 3D CAD design software.
o Technically minded as concepts will need to be viable for manufacture.
o Ability to produce and interpret 2D technical drawings.
o Excellent organisational skills
· The applicant will be expected to:
o Have the potential to engage and communicate directly with clients.
o Develop sound knowledge of design techniques, tooling and principles involved in production of precision injection moulded and blow moulded components.
o Develop sound knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
